MBBS Examination preparation Tips: Just before exam

MBBS Exam Tips : Just Before Exam
We have already described about the day to day study schedule one can plan to easily get through the MBBS exam. Now here are few tips to follow just before the Examination.

What is the hindrance to success?
1. Non preparedness.: It is impossible to get through an MBBS exam if you are reading for the exam just a day before it, unless you are too lucky or Super-genius. A day to day reading and preparation is the motto. Searching for pen, scale, etc at last moment.
2. Improper study and revision plan: Inability of the student to divide time for different subjects and different chapters within subject during final preparation is another issue.
3. Panicky- really a serious issue: You know but you can’t recall because you are anxious. Your mind is not working just the heart is pumping because of anxiety.
4. Unnecessary stress by trying to overdo things- Trying to remember something in too much detail may cause unnecessary stress. Comparing yourself to others and feeling guilty is another mistake. Fear of result is unnecessary .
5. Over Confidence- confidence is good but over confidence may land you up in disaster specially in viva and practical exams.
6. Neglecting the past questions

Exam tips
MBBS Exam a Time of Burden

Night before the exam:

1. Consult and discuss the preparation with your friends. You may be missing something important.
2. Make sure you complete your chapters by night. Keep the morning for revision.
3. Make sure you have not forgotten to ready your tools like pen, scale, clip board, rubber, Admit card etc.
4. Take frequent short rest. Close eyes but not your mind. Recall the topics you’ve read. Such rest time can be of 10 minutes. It’ll rest your eyes and improve your concentration.
5. Sleep adequate so that you won’t have a hangover in the morning. But don’t over sleep which will cause you to panic next day.

Morning of the Exam:

6. Wake up, take a cup of coffee with light breakfast. Include an apple which will freshen you up.
7. Plan atleast 4-6 hours for final reading in the morning ie flash revision. During this go through the most important chapters, go through the headings and subheadings and points( Skip the texts as you have read it before). Take time to recall the formula, Mnemonics and points.
8. Last moment reading is Worthless does not apply for MBBS exam. Go through the most probable topics again if time is available even before you enter the exam hall. You may see the question from the last moment chapter and then you will see how your hand runs smoothly on the answer paper.

In the Examination Hall-

1. Reach atleast 10 minutes before the start time.
2. Fill Your details in Answer paper clearly and stay calm. Do anything that will give you extra impression and marks like drawing margins etc.
3. Stay calm and read the questions from 1 to last once and decide which section you are to start with. Make sure that 1st question you answer is the one you know well as it’ll boost your confidence for rest of the paper.
4. Divide the time for each question. Make sure you don’t miss question. Remember answering 3 questions and getting 3 marks each is not better than answering 4 in short and getting 2.5 each. Cut short if time is less but answer all.
5. Answer as neatly as possible and leave adequate spacing between words. It’ll make paper look cleaner and answer look lengthier.
6. Do not try to fool the examiner by repeating the same sentence again and again trying to elongate the answer. Describe well but get to the point at right time. Don’t just hit around the bush until examiner is frustrated with your answer.
7. Keep sometime to recheck your paper.

After the exam-

Sleep atleast 1-2 hours before starting preparation for next subject. It works like resetting your PC and created memory for next subject. It will also give you ability to wake late.
After the Examination is complete-
Forget about the exam. Don’t take too much stress for result. But learn from you experience and improve them in coming exam.

All though, you may read hundreds of tips online, its you who should decide which are good for you and which aren’t. So don’t ignore your own idea.
BEST OF LUCK  🙂

    • Revise and learn basic science topics relevant to clinical topics. This way learning is much easier and the burden is less. Example – before going through peptic ulcer, you can just revise quickly about anatomy of stomach and physiology of gastric acid secretion. Go through the mechanism of action of drugs and adverse effects, the same time when you are studying management for the disease.

    • Hey !
Don’t worry so much about your family problems as there is time for it to be resolved but your third year and chance to give it will come only once
Write down all your problems and distractions and then forget about it
This will help you clear off all your negative and disturbing emotions
The very fact that you cleared all your subjects proves that you have the ability to do it. Don’t loose your confidence just do your daily work and remember that nothing is more important apart from this!
M sure you will pass with flying colours
      All the best.

    • No Generic names are important than brand names.
Brand names are only for later clinical practice.

  • Thnku sir…. ….:) feel’n bttr now..

  • Sir i am a stdnt mbbs 2nd…evn though i stdy…i cant b able to recall the points……….i m really frustated…wht to do…..especially d morphology thing in pathology……H. E. L. P

    • Hello emraan,
Everyone is different and no particular method works for all. For any subject, always try to compare (similarities and differences) 2 or more topics when studying. It is often very difficult to remember points by studying only once. So whenever studying, try to gain concept about the topic and write down important points, create mnemonics, draw flowcharts, etc. so that you can revise and recall it later without spending much time. Try recalling the pictures whenever possible, as a pictures speak 1000 words. Lots of animated medical videos are available now. They are really useful to remember topics you fail to understand by reading texts and to make concepts clear.

About pathology: Use the knowledge of general pathology (inflammation, neoplasia, hypersensitivity, etc.) when studying other topics. You’ll realize that you wouldn’t have to remember much except for some special points. Pathogenesis can often give you clue about morphology. Use “Harshmohan” book and use its simplified pictures which are extremely helpful in remembering the morphologic points. And there are times, where you can correlate between gross and microscopic features (Here is an example http://medchrome.com/basic-science/pathology/pathology-myocardial-infarction/).

  • hi i m in mbbs 1st year rguhs exam going batch i hav my exam in next month. So i m getting tensed. I m confused whether i should study whole book or study only questions from singi to pass.plse guide me.

    • Hello,
It depends upon the time you can manage. Its better to have over all reading of specially important chapters but from exam point of view go for Important ones only if time is lacking.
Because in exams things that are not important are rarely asked.

  • sir,
I am in my first year right now and I have my terminals(internals) in december. We wont be getting a study leave and that is making me really nervous. Also, we still have our tutorials and class tests going on. So, I am not able to manage my time and revise the previous topics covered. I am confused as to how do I cover up all the three subjects (Anatomy, Physiology n Biochemistry) so that I am well prepared not only for my theory but also for my viva and practicals. Please guide me and suggest an appropriate study schedule where I can include revision as well as studying the new topics covered in this month.

    Thanking You in advance.

    • Niharika, First of all you should calm down and leave back your nervousness for now.
Think about how you can plan for exam, how you can manage time.
Believe me Class tests wont harm you, nor waste your time, it’ll only speed up your preparation. Questions asked in Tests wont be forgotten easily and are likely to be repeated in terminal exam as well.
Now is the time to Divide the days! Suppose you have 30 days left and 6 subjects. 3 days per subject =18 days keep spare days for Anatomy and Speed review your Practicals. Say you lost few days due to tests and other cause.
Keep final 7 days for Final reading. Only theory at last 7 days. remember theory = viva, so focus on it.
      Its just a suggestion.
Final Design should be your, what plan matches you, which Subjects will take your time and which ones you can complete earlier.
So Take hour or so to Outline your study plan. You need to plan your success.

  • respected sir ,

    • Hello Priya ,
Like a child gets up and walks each time it falls down while learning walking, you should take the child as Inspiration.
He falls doesn’t mean he will limp all his life, when he becomes a man, he will walk steadily and firmly and confidently learning from his mistake.
I think I have made it clear.
Look forward with positive vibe, world is yours, you can become what u aim because if you look back into history , the Greatest people have failed initially.

  • i want to know how many seats are their in indian emnassy for mbbs.
is it better to study mbbs in india or nepal?

    • The Quality of education in Indian Medical Colleges is better than in Nepal because there are best medical colleges with best teachers and doctors and case exposure is also better.
Your degree from India counts good in Nepal.

  • i am curently student of 12 at orchid,i want to get into mbbs at first attempt at any cost.i know the competition is tough and the thing that i fear is i amnot doing premedical courses like valley students.
i wanna ask you which books are the best for preparation ? my few frens say megha series,is it best?

    • Megha and Newlite have been good books for long.
Besides you need to go through PCB and past questions as well.

  • sir i want to know about detail’s about MBBS studies.
because i am MBBS.First year student.

so please i want to know about short cut for studing for MBBS.

    • Karthikeyan, there is no short-cut , you have to complete full course and complete time. Only you can make studies short cut by studying important topics, and guides. It’ll help you pass the exam and sometimes becomes your last hope just before exams but if you start studying guides and review books from beginning, you’ll not be able to create you strong foundation.
So Follow the Daily study tips, I guarentee you, success will be your path.
